Speakers:
Dr. Dean J. Miller is a sleep scientist with expertise in fatigue mitigation, exercise science, sleep & circadian biology, and wearable technology. He holds a PhD in Sleep & Biological Rhythms from CQUniversity and has extensive experience in both academic and applied settings. Currently serving as an Adjunct Research Fellow at CQUniversity and Director of Chase Science Consultancy, he provides scientific solutions to high performance organisations, including the Australian Institute of Sport and the Royal Australian Air Force.
Dr Gemma Paech has been involved in the sleep field for over 18 years, with her research primarily focusing on the effects of sleep loss, circadian disruption and shiftwork on sleep and performance, and strategies to help mitigate these effects. She completed her undergraduate in Biomedical Science and honours degree in Physiology from Adelaide University, after which she obtained her PhD from the University of South Australia (UniSA). She then moved to the United States to complete two postdoctoral fellowships, firstly at Washington State University, Spokane and then at Rush University Medical College, Chicago. Subsequently, she worked at a clinical sleep centre in Newcastle NSW, where she dedicated her efforts to improving the lives of patients with sleep disorders. In late 2022, Dr Paech joined Qantas as a Principal Fatigue Specialist, leveraging her research expertise in operational settings to ensure the safety and well-being of crew and staff.
